Sponsored by a grant from the Office of Naval Research, the MEEP program is designed to equip Tennessee educators to develop future ready talent. MEEP seeks to address the growing STEM skills gap in the manufacturing and engineering sectors by engaging K-12 Tennessee educators in paid summer externships with local companies in STEM industries. The specific schedule for the externship experience is flexible based on educator and provider preference.
Any teacher in Tennessee is eligible to apply as an individual or team and each educator will be trained virtually by TSIN staff in problem based learning (PBL) best practices. At the conclusion of the externship experience, the educator will develop a PBL curricular unit that exposes their students to industry skills and career opportunities. TSIN will pay the educators a stipend of $2500 for their participation and the development of curricular units. You'll also attend at program wrap-up virtually or in-person in Nashville during the Fall of 2022.
1) Complete a 4-day virtual/hybrid training on EITHER June 13-16 OR June 20-23. There will be two trainings pathways available during both sessions to ensure that the professional development meets the needs of all educators.
2) Complete a 1-2 day externship with a local manufacturer during July 2022. (This will be within 30-45 minutes of your school.)
3) Complete a PBL learning opportunity revolving around your experience.
4) Attend the wrap-up virtually or in-person in Nashville during the Fall of 2022.
