As the new year begins, it's time to celebrate the incredible journey of expanding K-12 STEM education in Tennessee. From empowering educators to inspiring students, the network’s impact has been nothing short of transformative.
Empowering Educators
Our commitment to professional development has empowered educators statewide. Workshops, training sessions, and collaborative initiatives have equipped teachers with the tools and knowledge needed to spark curiosity and innovation in their classrooms. In collaboration with educational leaders across the state, the TSIN team has hosted 370 hours of FREE professional development for K-12 educators focused on building STEM teaching capacity. The strategies and practices embedded in this professional development enhance educator and administrator practice in creating STEM-focused student learning environments.
Igniting Classrooms
Our work inspires STEM learning in K-12 education by providing engaging programs and hands-on experiences that ignited a passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, laying the foundation for the next generation of innovators. Our top-used middle school STEM career awareness lessons completed, provided in partnership with Defined were Aerospace Engineering and Operations Technologists, Agricultural Research Assistants, and Environmental Science and Protection Technicians. This resource connects students with real careers in STEM fields, expanding their understanding of future college and career pathways.
Transformative Impact
TSIN's emphasis on collaboration extended beyond classrooms. Community partnerships flourished, creating a dynamic network of support. Local businesses, research institutions, and communities joined hands to nurture a culture of Computer Science excellence at the Computer Science Momentum Expedition event at GEODIS Park. This event connected over 30 industry partners with Tennessee educators to demystify computer science education in the workplace. Participating educators now better understand the competencies and skills their students need to enter emerging STEM fields in Tennessee.
Ripple Effect
The real measure of TSIN's success lies in the achievements of students. Countless success stories have emerged, showcasing the positive impact of STEM education on their academic journeys and future aspirations. As we look forward to 2024, let's carry the momentum forward.
Battelle, the Tennessee Department of Education, and countless industry partners make this work possible. Thank you for being so committed to STEM education. Together, we can continue bridging gaps, inspiring minds, and shaping the future through STEM education.
