NASHVILLE - The Tennessee STEM Innovation Network is hosting a collaborative cohort for counselors from across the state. This program focuses on increasing the enrollment of underrepresented groups in STEM high school and postsecondary course work by supporting counselors in STEM career exploration and advising. Millions of STEM jobs are expected to go unfilled soon, and the demand for workforce ready students has never been more palpable. This program will create pathways for students who show interest in STEM fields but currently lack guidance to execute their career interests. By increasing counselor knowledge of STEM careers, advising them on opportunities within these growing employment areas, and supporting them with career exploration platforms, we will broaden the horizon for students across Tennessee to reach STEM fields that best fit their talents, interests, and skills. The Tennessee STEM Innovation Network endeavors to change that narrative for the children of Tennessee by equipping our school counselors with the tools needed to support and encourage students to take courses that will develop STEM skills. This bolsters student success beyond the classroom as counselors engage them in the tremendous career opportunities that are available in STEM. Counselors are encouraged to join the conversation around this important effort by participating in this new, free, statewide collaborative cohort.
