Applications Now Open for K-12 STEM Classroom Grants

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee STEM Innovation Network and STEMx are pleased to announce the 2023-24 application window is open for the K-12 STEM Education Grants funded by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and in partnership with the TVA retiree organization Bicentennial Volunteers Inc. (BVI). The application window will remain open through September 15, 2023.

The competitive program funds STEM learning in classrooms and schools in TVA’s seven-state service area. Eligible applicants are teachers or school administrators in public or private schools, grades K-12. Schools must be in the TVA service area and receive electricity from a local power distributor served by TVA.

“TVA remains proud to support educators and students who pursue excellence in STEM subjects,” said Jeannette Mills, TVA Executive Vice President and Chief External Relations Officer. “To build the energy system of the future, our region’s future workforce must be prepared to continue innovating for the decades ahead.”

The application process opened earlier this year so teachers have time before students arrive to submit applications and so that grant funding can be distributed before January. This new timeline will give teachers that receive grants the entire spring semester to implement their projects within their classroom.

“TSIN’s partnership with TVA amplifies resources and cultivates an ecosystem where all learners have the opportunity to experience STEM education and build work-ready skills,” affirms Brandi Stroecker, TSIN Network Director. “We are grateful for TVA and BVI’s continued support to shape TN classrooms.”

Last year’s program awarded an astounding $1 million in grants to schools across the Tennessee Valley. Teachers may apply for funding up to $5,000 for STEM projects with preference given to applications that explore TVA’s primary area of focus: environment, energy, economic and career development, and community problem-solving.
