At a legislative luncheon hosted by STEMspark East Tennessee Innovation Hub, TVA announced its support for the TSIN in the form of a $100,000 contribution to be divided among TSIN STEM Platform Schools across the state.
“TVA understands that excellence in education is the key to our future,” said TVA vice president Justin Maierhofer. “We support initiatives like the STEM schools that develop a talent pipeline for TVA and its customers. Our employees also support our partner schools by volunteering their time.”
TVA’s support for public education emphasizes learning activities associated with STEM, along with other skill areas that are vital to TVA’s workforce. TVA estimates that 40% of the energy sector workforce will be eligible for retirement within five years.
This gift coincided with the announcement that L&N STEM Academy is now accepting students from the eight counties that border Knox Co.: Anderson, Blount, Grainger, Jefferson, Loudon, Roane, Sevier, and Union. Read more about the school’s expansion here.
