The holiday season is all about gratitude. In Tennessee, we are privileged with some of the most outstanding and committed STEM teachers anywhere in the country. To retain these amazing teachers in Tennessee, we need to elevate and recognize the incredible commitment and effort they put forth each and every day. Effective STEM teachers develop hands-on lessons in the classroom and seek outside opportunities for students to apply their learning to outside STEM activities and competitions. Through MakerMinded , we want to recognize those teachers that incorporate strategies to engage minds everyday and provide a centralized convenient tool for teachers and students to discover new activities that challenge and inspire.

More than 85 schools from all parts of the state have signed up for MakerMinded

MakerMinded launched in Tennessee in October and has since expanded to more than 85 schools throughout the state and added more than 45 of the highest quality STEM activities.

MakerMinded’s digital platform is connecting Tennessee students to leading-edge STEM experiences, while harnessing competition to increase participation. Examples of the unique programs included on the platform are Learning Blade, a mission-driven online STEM curriculum; Science Olympiad, First Robotics, and the “LIFT Assembly Line” Virtual Reality game, among many other classroom-based and team activities. With each completed STEM activity, schools earn points on the live leaderboard. At the end of the year, the three middle schools and three high schools that have the most points will be recognized at the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network summit. Additionally, these schools will win a Virtual Reality program for their school, and individual students can win a STEM camp scholarship.

White Station Middle School earned MakerMinded points by participating in Science Olympiad, among other high quality STEM activities

Not only does the program provide an opportunity to increase student access to high quality STEM activities, but it also provides a unique opportunity to show gratitude and overdue recognition for the amazing STEM teachers in our state. Teachers, as you enjoy some well-deserved hot cocoa this winter break, check out MakerMinded and receive the recognition you deserve.
