We are pleased to announce the hiring of Kristin McQueen, former teacher with the Ashland City Elementary STEM Academy in Ashland, TN, as the Network's STEM Relationship Manager. In this role, McQueen will manage several of the Network’s initiatives including MEEP, the Tennessee Rural Collaborative, and the Defined Learning Partnership. McQueen will also have a hand in the STEM Designation process, something she knows well after leading her own school successfully through designation.
Kristin began her career in education as a third grade Math and Science teacher in St. Bethlehem Elementary in Clarksville, TN, before she transitioned to the role of Lead STEM Educator at Ashland City Elementary STEM Academy. This role would last for 7 years and ultimately lead her to the Network and to numerous Teacher of the Year awards.
“I have personally been able to implement or participate in several programs offered by the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network,” relates McQueen. “I have experienced firsthand the impact the Network supports can have for educators, students, and schools and the powerful transformation those experiences bring. Through my work with TSIN, I have grown into the leader I am today. STEM is a priority across our Nation and evident that our students need to be equipped with STEM skills, and I am beyond thrilled to transition into the STEM Relationship Manager position and be a part of the impact in STEM education across the state of Tennessee.”
McQueen has participated in numerous TSIN programs from the TN Rural Collaborative to the Innovative Leaders Institute. She has also led a team through the Statewide Design Challenge, with her team ultimately winning the “Most Innovative” category. Bringing her experience from externships and grants, McQueen offers a unique, user perspective that will allow her to empathize with the educators growing through the programs she now manages.
With a passion for serving the needs of students in rural areas, Kristin brings experience in providing relevant problem-based education and opportunities. She has firsthand knowledge of the impact a STEM education can have and understands how rural schools can grow and expand their STEM offerings.
